A practical guide to increasing blog traffic using SEMrush

SEMrush is one of my favorite tools, and I’ve mentioned it several times in ShoutMeLoud.

It was around 2012 when I started using this simple search engine marketing tool, and over the past 8 years, it has become one of the most popular tools for bloggers and SEO companies.

If you’re an existing user of SEMrush, great! You must know how great it is.

If you don’t have an account yet, you can get one using this link 14-day free trial worth $199.

14 days is enough for you to try out all the features below while improving your blog’s search engine presence (Which will lead to a significant increase in revenue).

Recently, SEMrush has added some amazing new features. Here are my favourites…

New features of SEMrush to grow your online business:

1. Site SEO Audit

SEMrush now offers a Full Site SEO Audit With every plan (including their most basic “Pro” plan) that lets you find all SEO issues on your blog.

You can set your site audit as a “campaign” and let it run at specified intervals (every week, every month, etc.).

I have prepared a weekly report for ShoutMeLoud because this blog is big and very active. What I like is that I only need to set up site audit It will automatically send me a weekly report once, and the audit is complete.

Here is a report from (formerly Site Audit:

  • Bonus Tip: if you are setting site audit For the first time, you have a choice sChoose different crawlers. By default, the SEMrush desktop bot is chosen to be crawled, and you can convert it to a Google desktop or mobile bot. I prefer Google bot and suggest the same for you as it is better to look at SEO report from Google point of view.

2. Social Media Analytics

This feature is in beta, but it is available to all existing SEMrush customers.

Social analytics is a very important aspect of SEO and is often overlooked by bloggers.

This feature of SEMrush gives you Audit your Facebook, Twitter and G+ accounts.

you can also Check Your Competitor’s Social Media Accounts To measure how well you are doing against them.

  • (At this time, SEMrush’s “social media” tool only supports the above reporting.)

Your goal is to always have the green mark in your weekly reports.

Here’s a report from ShoutMeLoud’s social media channels:

What I love here is the comprehensive details on everything, including the number of updates and the engagement rate.

If you have a close competitor, you can get important data such as how often they are updating their social media accounts, and you can plan your strategy around your marketing campaign.

Since this tool is still in beta, I have a few suggestions:

  • YouTube integration: Having YouTube here would be really helpful. These days, all bloggers are quite active with video blogging, and YouTube is always the platform of choice. I’ve mentioned VidIQ for YouTube users before, and having that kind of data (data shown by VidIQ or TubeBuddy) would make SEMrush’s social media feature a useless choice among video bloggers.
  • Improve engagement: Optimizing social media accounts directly based on a competitor’s report would also be very useful (especially for newcomers).

3. SEO Ideas (You will love this)

It is a holy grail for bloggers who understand the importance of keyword optimization.

SEO Ideas Tool simplifies the tasks associated with web page optimization.

By auditing your landing pages that appear in Google SERPs and comparing them to your competitors’ pages for the same keywords, SEMrush will give you recommendations for your optimization strategy and keyword targeting that can improve your search engine rankings.

You need to manually add all the pages of your website and add in the keywords for which you want to get views. The report will be ready immediately.

Here’s what it looks like:

the coldest part that it Pulls up landing pages automatically With keywords based on your status checker setting, (I’ll talk about the keyword position checker in the next section.)

This tool analyzes the ranking of the top 10 pages for a single keyword (in Google) and suggests changes to you on how to improve your ranking.

You also get for backlink building Domain suggestions Where you should try to get backlinks for high ranking.

Here’s an example of an SEO Ideas report page:

  • You shouldn’t miss their SEO Ideas stats page, which is a dashboard in itself.

Here you can find the pages that need customization (Provided that you have connected them as mentioned above).

This is a feature that is under-utilized by many SEMrush users, and it really is something you should not miss.

4. Keyword Position Tracking

Keeping track of your keyword position is probably the most important aspect of your website’s SEO.

I started using SEMrush regularly because of the keyword tracking feature.

Recently, they’ve made some changes, and their tracking now includes:

  • Support for Local SEO
  • Device based tracking keywords

What I love most about this feature is the ability to add keywords directly from Google Analytics. It really helps to speed up the process.

In the image below, you can see some of the keywords that have been selected from my Google Analytics account.

The “sandbox” is where suggested keywords are shown, and you can add or remove keywords as you wish.

don’t forget to check “send me weekly updates” section. You will receive a weekly email where you can track which keywords have improved ranking and which keywords have lost their ranking.

SEMrush can do a lot

I have been a user of SEMrush for a long time and it is only because they Keep raising the bar and adding new features which are wonderful.

SEMrush not only helped me grow my core blogs, but it also helped me keep my micro-niche site’s SEO up-to-date. Typically, these are micro-niche sites. ‘Set it and forget it’, That’s why tracking their SEO progress manually is a real pain. But SEMrush has stepped in and made the process easy.
