Google adds pros and cons to structured data markup support

If yes, then you will love this new feature update by Google search team. Google has added support for pros and cons to product review snippets in search results.

Here’s how it would look in the Google SERP:

According to the official announcement:

You can tell Google about your pros and cons by supplying structured data of pros and cons on editorial review pages. When you’re adding structured data to your web pages, you can use rich results testing to make sure it’s accurate and valid for Google searches. The tool has recently been expanded to examine the pros and cons of structured data in addition to all other structured data types supported by Google Search.

Sometimes, Google editorials will automatically generate pros and cons for product review pages, and you can improve the results by providing your own pros and cons.

Pros and Cons Support for Structured Data:

The following languages ​​are supported by this structured data:

Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish

Here are the guidelines for using pros and cons according to Google:

  • Currently, only editorial product review pages are eligible for profit and loss in search, not merchant product pages or customer product reviews.
  • There should be at least two statements about the product. It can be any combination of positive and/or negative statements (for example, ItemList Markup with two affirmative statements is valid).
  • Profit and Loss should be visible to the users on the page.

Adding Product Review Structured Data Markup:

If you are using WordPress, the WP Product Review Pro plugin is one of the best plugins for adding review markup. It lets you show the review box as shown in the screenshot below.

You can edit it to show the pros and cons, which will also be effective for your end users and structured data markup. This plugin can be used with any other SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO.

It will be interesting to see if some WordPress review plugins announce support for this new structured data markup.
