Your 5-Minute Daily Cleaning Routine for Retainers and Night Guards

The best cleaning routine is the one you'll actually do. Five minutes, every morning. Here is what we recommend after a decade of working with dentists who see what happens when people skip it.

Step 1: Cool Rinse (30 seconds)

As soon as you take the appliance out, rinse it under cool — not hot — water. Hot water can subtly warp thermoplastic appliances over time.

Step 2: Soft-Bristle Brush (90 seconds)

Use a dedicated soft-bristle appliance brush, not your toothbrush. Toothpaste is abrasive and creates micro-scratches where bacteria settle. Plain water and gentle brushing is enough.

Step 3: Foaming Cleanser (60 seconds)

For an extra-fresh finish, pump a small amount of our foaming enzyme cleanser into your palm, work it around the appliance, and rinse.

Step 4: Air Dry (passive)

Place the appliance on a clean dry surface or our drying tray for two minutes before storing.

Step 5: Vented Storage (15 seconds)

Drop it into a vented case. Done. Once a week, add the deep soak from our hub guide.
